Sew Sew Cville  is a place to take classes, hang out and share knowledge in a space dedicated to just sewing. Sewing is referred to as a practice for good reason – it requires regular attempts, a little patience and an embrace of imperfection to understand the craft.  It has its own vocabulary, entailing complex thinking and problem-solving skills.  At the same time, it’s easily approachable and your projects don’t have to be perfect, they just need to be. Finished is better than perfect here at Sew Sew Cville.

I’m Becky, the person behind Sew Sew Cville. I’ve been sewing since high school, having grown up with a mother who sewed. I’ve been making my own clothes since I learned to sew for myself as well as the bridesmaid dresses for my wedding, Halloween costumes, the window treatments in my house, throw pillows, the occasional easy reupholstering project while also dabbling every now and again into quilting. I love using vintage fabrics and coming up with ways to use random sized pieces of fabric to create one-of-a-kind items. I would always much rather teach someone how to sew rather than make something for them.

Beyond Sew Sew Cville, I also teach cooking classes, am a free-lance writer with a focus on but not limited to food. My other hobbies include knitting, gardening, taking long walks in the woods with my rescue beagle and watching Jeopardy! with my husband as we enjoy our empty nesting stage. Charlottesville residents since the late 1990’s, we raised a family here and have long been involved our community. I’m proud to be bringing my vision of a sewing community center to life in Sew Sew Cville.
